Quito, Ecuador

The WE DRIVE CHANGE initiative in Quito supports women by opening pathways into Ecuador’s emerging electric mobility sector. We collaborate with local universities, NGOs, companies and public institutions to address gendered mobility challenges and promote inclusive innovation. The hub focuses on building skills, collecting gender-sensitive data and fostering opportunities for employment, leadership and sustainable transport solutions.

Kigali

The WE DRIVE CHANGE initiative in Kigali empowers women by connecting them to training, jobs and leadership opportunities in Rwanda’s growing electric mobility sector. In partnership with local start-ups and universities, the hub supports skills development, business model innovation and gender-responsive solutions. Through hands-on collaboration, it promotes inclusive growth and helps shape a more equitable and sustainable urban transport system.

Marrakesh

The WE DRIVE CHANGE initiative in Marrakesh supports young women by enhancing their access to safe and sustainable mobility. It partners with local organizations to address gender-based mobility challenges and promote social inclusion. The projects SESAand BOOST also explores new business models in green transportation and creates opportunities for employment and empowerment.

Ghana

The WE DRIVE CHANGE initiative in Accra empowers women by providing hands-on training in electric mobility and sustainable transport. Collaborating with local universities and female entrepreneurs, the project introduces solar-powered e-mobility solutions to address gender biases and promote equality. Through these efforts, it fosters inclusive innovation and builds a network of women leaders driving climate-friendly change in urban transport.

Kochi

Since 2018, our Kochi Hub has been at the forefront of integrating light electric vehicles into city operations. We maintain a close relationship with the Ministry and have pioneered projects focusing on gender-disaggregated data collection and demonstration pilots. Through strong stakeholder engagement and robust training initiatives, we continue to drive sustainable mobility and empower women in Kochi.

Scale-up Hubs

Tanzania, Dar es Salaam

In Dar es Salaam, the introduction of electric three-wheelers aims to enhance sustainable transport options for women, particularly in paratransit and public transport electrification. Additionally, pedal-assist electric bicycles have been introduced for urban deliveries and medical transport, providing safer and more efficient mobility solutions for women.

Philippines, Pasig

In Pasig City, e-mobility initiatives include the launch of e-quadricycles and flexible electric vans, aiming to provide sustainable urban transport solutions. These efforts focus on improving access and mobility for women, promoting electric vehicles as viable alternatives to traditional combustion engine vehicles.

Nepal, Kathmandu

In Kathmandu, e-mobility initiatives include the launch of remodelled Safa tempos and new e-cargo tempos to enhance public transport, particularly benefiting women by providing safer and more sustainable travel options. The project also focuses on the conversion of diesel buses to electric buses, aiming to reduce emissions and improve urban mobility.

Uruguay, Montevideo

In Montevideo, e-mobility initiatives are boosting women's involvement in low-carbon urban logistics by integrating locally designed electric cargo bikes and tricycles into city operations. Additionally, the city’s support for seed funding and training has empowered local startups and stakeholders to advance electric vehicle adoption and charging infrastructure.

South Africa

In South Africa, our living lab in Alicedale, launched by the uYilo e-Mobility Programme and GREEN Solar Academy, focuses on enhancing women's mobility and empowerment through sustainable technologies. The lab tests off-grid solar energy systems, solar photovoltaic panels, and second-life EV batteries to support micro-electric vehicles, providing women with eco-friendly and reliable transportation options while addressing community energy needs.

Kenya, Katito

In Katito, our demo site is piloting electric motorcycles  with retrofitted electric drivetrains, providing an affordable and sustainable transportation solution powered by solar energy, which helps women access economic opportunities. Additionally, solar-powered water pumping technology ensures clean, accessible water through a gravity flow system and prepaid ATMs, improving daily life for women and their families.

Ghana, Kumasi

The Ghana Living Lab at AAMUSTED in Kumasi focuses on empowering women through e-mobility and sustainable energy solutions. Activities include testing bioethanol stoves and solar batteries for off-grid use, providing practical training, and improving energy access for rural communities, fostering sustainable practices and economic empowerment for women.

Vietnam, Hanoi

Hanoi stakeholders gained valuable insights from knowledge products and participated in extensive e-mobility training sessions, culminating in the 2022 national training event with UNDP. Additionally, the city piloted a shared e-mobility system for last-mile connectivity, featuring electric 2-wheelers and innovative app integration, with the project initially launched for public use in November 2022.

South Africa, Cape Town

Cape Town demonstration projects include road safety intervention costing, safe routes to school using the R2S app, a safety design competition, and analysis of pedestrian highway crossing behavior. These initiatives aim to enhance road safety through education, infrastructure improvements, and community engagement, potentially inspiring low-cost safety solutions.
