Empowering Female Students with Solar-Powered Mobility
Our Hub in Marrakesh
In Morocco, We Drive Change has established a dynamic hub in Marrakesh, focusing on women’s empowerment in the e-mobility sector. Key highlights include capacity-building workshops, field visits with local partners, and pilot activities promoting gender-inclusive access to electric mobility. The hub is creating new opportunities for women to lead in sustainable urban transport and climate action.
Trainings
Living Lab Activities
Main intervention:
The living lab distributes 40 electric mopeds, 7 of which are offered free of charge to low-income female students at Cadi Ayyad University. The remaining vehicles are accessible to the public via a shared mobility model.
Technology used:
Sunra Hawk e-mopeds with 50–60 km range per charge, GPS tracking, and solar-powered charging hubs.
Training:
Students received dedicated training on vehicle safety, usage, and maintenance. Additional SESA online courses covered second-life EV batteries, smart microgrids, and more.

Sustainable Mobility for Female Students
At Dar Ettalliba student residence halls in Marrakech, a new urban mobility solution is taking shape: 27 electric mopeds are being operated specifically for female students from surrounding areas, while a broader micromobility sharing system with 40 e-bikes is being piloted.
The initiative aims to introduce electric mobility as a clean, sustainable alternative to traditional motorcycles, with a special focus on empowering women as primary users. The project partners with Dar Ettalliba, a local NGO supporting young women from low-income, rural backgrounds with housing, food, and essential services.
Backed by a private mobility company, the demonstration also explores a replicable business model for shared e-mobility – blending social impact with long-term sustainability.

Creating Green Jobs through the BOOST Project
As part of the BOOST Project, funded by the GIZ, the initiative also created new employment pathways in the sustainable mobility sector. Fourteen unemployed individuals – the majority of them women – were placed in a six-month internship program with POGO, the local e-mobility operator. This hands-on training not only provided valuable technical and operational skills but also opened doors to long-term career opportunities. The BOOST Project is a core part of our broader strategy to foster green jobs in Africa’s urban mobility transition, empowering a new generation of professionals in climate-friendly transport.

Opportunity Pathways
At WE DRIVE CHANGE we collaborates with local companies, government agencies, universities, and NGOs to provide training, internships, and fast-track employment pathways. We advocate for policy changes to improve women's employment conditions and create clear career pathways to ensure more women enter and thrive in the mobility sector. Additionally, we address challenges like part-time work, gender bias, and caregiving responsibilities.
