Women leading change in operations:
The DHL experience
As part of the E-Warmi project and its campaign “Voices Transforming Mobility,” this story highlights women who are driving change in different professional fields to promote more inclusive and sustainable mobility.
Within this framework, DHL partnered with the E-Warmi project through several joint activities, including its participation in the communication campaign, the Job Fair for female drivers, and as a speaker in project events.
Through its “Women in Operations” program, DHL is creating real opportunities for women to grow, lead, and make their voices heard in a sector still largely dominated by men.
Creating opportunities for women
Diana Urquizo, Operations Supervisor, joined the company through this initiative and today plays a key role in promoting gender balance at DHL.
“This program allows us to grow professionally and to understand how important it is to maintain a gender-balanced environment,” she explains. “It helps us identify and work on our own biases, building more empathetic and efficient teams.”
Diana’s story reflects the broader challenge in the logistics and transport sectors, where women make up only around 20% of the workforce, according to the International Labour Organization. For her, the Women in Operations programme has become a space for empowerment and transformation within the company.
Driving the change
Another inspiring example is Dominique Puetate, a logistics driver who represents the growing presence of women on the road. With DHL’s support, she obtained her professional driving licence and now operates electric vehicles in her daily work.
“I had the opportunity to drive an electric vehicle for the first time,” she shares. “They’re smoother, more ergonomic, and very comfortable to handle. You just have to make sure the battery is fully charged!”
Building a culture of respect and trust
DHL’s commitment also extends beyond inclusion. The company has created safe spaces for dialogue and trust, encouraging women to speak openly about their experiences.
“DHL really promotes listening to our voices as women,” says Diana. “We have contact lines we can reach out to in cases like harassment, and our Country Manager personally represents us and ensures our complaints are heard.”
Beyond individual achievements, the Women in Operations program is helping redefine what leadership means within DHL, a goal that aligns closely with the E-Warmi project’s purpose of empowering women to lead urban mobility.
By fostering mentorship and collaboration, the programme is building networks of women who support each other, share knowledge, and open doors for the next generation. These connections not only strengthen the company’s culture but also set an inspiring example for the entire logistics sector across Latin America.
A lasting impact
The experiences of Diana and Dominique show that the Women in Operations program goes far beyond increasing women’s participation. It’s about building a culture based on respect, equity, and trust, one that empowers women to lead change and ensures their voices continue to transform mobility from within.
